Ultimate War Ultimate Update #2

We gave you a rather cryptic table last update and pondered what it could mean. Well, what do the Crimson Wardens, the White Lions of Dagelmar, the Wild Fist, and Mandor’s Filthy Legion have in common? They are just four of the gazillion possible combinations you might create with our Random Mercenary Band Generator! In addition to generating names from the classic to the ridiculous (Mandor’s Filthy Fist, anyone? You don’t know where that hand has been!), you can randomize the size, composition, and tactics of each mercenary band, connecting it to your campaign world. Not in the mood to spend the afternoon populating your game world with mercenary bands? No problem! Ultimate War provides you with a collection of pregenerated mercenary bands ready to use out of the box!

The next slice of Ultimate War I’m tackling is the interface of adventurers and armies, including the use of the troop subtype as a bridge between mass battles between units and person-to-person combat in the classic gaming tradition. The impact of solo heroes on a mass combat scenario is always tricky, but the rules herein are designed to help you move smoothly between layers of a battlefield scenario to reach for that epic feeling of your characters being right in the midst of a dynamic battle moving all around them. Hopefully we’ll succeed! Stay tuned for further Ultimate Updates as we race on to getting this product done!

Ultimate War Ultimate Update #1

Ultimate War, the long-delayed sequel to our hit Ultimate Rulership and Ultimate Battle products has been pushed aside repeatedly by other products, but NO MORE! As I’m diligently working away on getting it done by the end of the month, I thought I would post some semi-regular updates as to what I’m working on now, which will also serve as a bit of a preview of what’s inside!

Today’s progress was mostly in the area of editing the Combined Arms units section and its interface with the standard army combat rules as well as the alternate rules from Ultimate Battle, but I also did some work on this section, with a mysterious table for which you’d roll 1d12 to see what to do next. I wonder if some enterprising and intuitive soul can figure out what this table is for. There may be a prize in your future if you’re the first one to figure it out!

d12 roll ???

2 The B-C
3 The C of D
4 The C of E

Another 5-star review for Legendary Games – MARSHAL PATH ABILITIES

Thanks to Weslocke on the Paizo messageboards (also posted as southernpoet on the shop.d20pfsrd product page) for his glowing review of the latest of our Mythic Minis: Marshal Path Abilities. Here’s what he had to say:

The fourth entry in Legendary Games Mythic Minis line is a perfectly themed expansion to the Mythic Marshall Path. The abilities within are thematically appropriate to the Marshall’s role as the unbeatable combat coordinator and really add functional and flavorful options to the paths already enviable capabilities. The abilities contained within include: Expert Aid, Teamwork Feat Mastery, Unbroken Will, Conflicting Orders (my personal favorite), Friendly Flanking, Shatter Resistance & Resurging Speech. And, believe me, they are definitely mythic!

The PDF’s production quality is, as usual, immaculate. The bang-for-your-literal-buck is practically unbeatable. All-in-all this is definitely another feather in the Legendary Design Teams cap. Grab yourself a copy today. You will not be disappointed.

Thanks to Weslocke and to everyone who takes the time to write a review of our products, be they long, short, or in between. Your kind words and detailed thoughts help other customers see what’s out there and what kind of things they’d like to try. NOW AVAILABLE in wide release: MYTHIC MONSTERS 7: INNER PLANES

The latest and greatest Mythic Monster product from Legendary Games, Mythic Monsters: Inner Planes is ready and waiting for you right here on our very own webstore, as well as on our great partner sites like shop.d20pfsrd, Paizo, and DrivethruRPG!

Just take a look at the awesome abilities that lurk within for making monsters majorly memorable! As befitting his fiery temper, the mythic noble efreeti malik boasts of his searing arrogance!

Searing Arrogance (Ex): A mythic efreeti gains blistering invective as a spell-like ability, which it can use at will. It may spend one use of its mythic power to use the mythic version of this spell instead, or two uses of its mythic power to use the augmented mythic version. In addition, it adds its Strength modifier on Intimidate checks made against non-mythic creatures, and it is immune to Intimidate checks made by non-mythic creatures or creatures whose mythic tier or rank does not exceed their own. If its Intimidate check exceeds the DC by 5 or more when using Intimidate to demoralize creatures, they are frightened instead of shaken.

Or take the power of their earthier equivalents, the mythic noble shaitan pasha, and one of the powers that sets them apart even amongst the treacherous and tricksy ranks of the genie races.

Legalistic Entrapment (Su): Mythic shaitans are the cleverest wordsmiths of all the genie races, able to lure a mortal with promises of wealth and power only to subvert their arrangement in an unexpected way. When a mythic shaitan grants a wish, it may make a Bluff check opposed by the recipient’s Sense Motive check. If the mythic shaitan wins the opposed check, it may expend one use of mythic power to lay a mark of justice or geas upon the recipient of the wish. This power cannot affect creatures whose mythic rank or tier equals or exceeds their own.

Of course, Mythic Monsters: Inner Planes is not just about genies; look for amazing abilities for all manner of extraplanar enemies (or even allies) from mythic mercane, salamanders, xill, xorn, and more, plus the all-new liminal hound! COME AND GET IT!!!

Another 5-star review for Legendary Games: BOREAL BESTIARY

Another ringing endorsement from the Runelord of Reviews, Endzeitgeist, for the second of our Beasts of Legend products, the Boreal Bestiary! Endy gives a rundown of all of the creatures and templates in this book, from artwork to design to lore and inspiration. His overall impression:

Jason Nelson, Tim Hitchcock and Matt Goodall have crafted an array of exceedingly awesome all-killer, no-filler monsters herein – oozing a sense of antiquity, folklore-flair and combining that with signature abilities galore, each being in this book is just a glorious monster that mops the floor with the majority of creatures out there – if Paizo released a full bestiary of creatures of this quality, everyone would be screaming about the best bestiary ever – it’s that good. With a lot of space devoted to each creature, lore, stellar artworks, player-friendly artwork-handouts (“THIS attacks you!”) and sheer imaginative potential, these beings have the space required for them to shine. And yes, you may know some of these beings from e.g. the excellent “Cold Mountain”-adventure, but believe me – this bestiary is well-worth every cent of the asking-price, making for one of the best mini-bestiaries ever released for any d20-based system -Period. Final verdict? Unsurprising 5 stars + seal of approval – Legendary Games once again lives up to the premise of the company name – legendary indeed!

You can read his review in full on his own review site as well as on DrivethruRPG and Paizo.com! Thanks to Endy and to everyone who takes the time to write a review for Legendary Games, or for any 3rd party publisher. We greatly appreciate the positive word of mouth and the help you give to folks out there wondering whether they should spend their hard-earned cash on products that aren’t “official”; a great review is a great help, and here at Legendary Games we offer you our thanks!

PREVIEW: What’s inside Mythic Monsters 7: Inner Planes

A sneak peek for those wondering what exactly you’ll find between the covers of the latest Mythic Monsters product from Legendary Games, take a look at this list of creatures:

CR/MR Creature

5/2       mythic genie, janni

6/2       mythic ghul

6/2       mythic mercane

6/2       mythic tojanida

8/3       mythic salamander

8/3       mythic xill

8/3       mythic xorn

9/3       mythic invisible stalker

10/4      mythic genie, noble djinni (vizier)

10/4      liminal hound

12/5      mythic genie, noble efreeti (malik)

14/5      mythic genie, noble marid (shahzada)

16/6      mythic genie, noble shaitan (pasha)

At the suggestion of a number of folks when we previewed this product previously, we updated all four of our core mythic genie races to their noble equivalents, which makes a great deal more sense for a truly MYTHIC version of a genie, especially those with the power to overrule the wishes granted by their lesser (and perhaps less wise) compatriots. Tomorrow we’ll preview a few more of the powers you’ll find inside.

Mythic genies help police the genie wish economy by keeping their lesser kin from making bad deals or abusing the system. All mythic genies that can grant wishes have the following ability (this does not count against their allotment of mythic powers based on their mythic rank):

Wishmaster (Su): A mythic genie is aware of every wish granted by a genie of its type anywhere on the same plane, and can sense objects and situations that have been altered by such wishes granted within the last year. A mythic genie with the ability to grant wishes (including limited wishes) may expend two uses of its mythic power as well as one use of its own wish-granting ability to negate a wish (or limited wish) granted by another genie of its type, or alter its effects.

A mythic genie usually uses this ability when it deems that a lesser genie has made a poor bargain or one that casts its race in a negative light, or when the lesser genie is being compelled or manipulated either magically or through bluffing, trickery, or flattery. Generally, a mythic genie that has to undo a lesser genie’s wish will track down the lesser genie and punish it to incentivize more care in the future, as well as interrogating it about the situation that led to the wish. A mythic genie often waits until it gets the full story before negating or altering a wish, so wishes sometimes remain in effect for days or even months before being changed, often subtly and insidiously.
