SUMMER PREVIEW #3: Something MONSTROUS this way comes!

Over the past year, Legendary Games has become synonymous with awesome product for the mythic rules of the Pathfinder RPG. There is a certain danger inherent in creating so much product for the mythic rules, and that people forget all the other awesome product we are making as though Legendary Games was just “that company that does mythic stuff.” Our new line of Pirate Adventure Path Plug-Ins should certainly allay any fears that this might be the case, and one of the delightful side effects of me taking on the job of design and publishing full-time is that it allows me to devote the time to finishing up projects that have been lying fallow in our product lines, from well-known projects like the Ultimate Warfollow-up to Ultimate Rulershipand Ultimate Battleto products that we started on but never even announced, like some hidden gems for the Kingdom-Building and Far East Adventure Path Plug-Ins line! It’s going to be a lot of fun to get those polished off and out to you. If you are a follower of LG ace Clinton Boomer on Facebook and elsewhere, you’ve seen some free preview shots of some of the things we’ll be bringing you, because we just like being generous like that.

That said, Legendary Games is still the king of mythic material, as we’ve been busily working behind the scenes on the MYTHIC MANIA Kickstarter material, but also along the way making a slew of great products to make your game more awesome. Here’s a secret: You don’t have to run a “mythic campaign” to use the mythic rules! The Mythic Monsters series of products are a great example, because it provides you with complete stat blocks and abilities for juiced-up versions of classic monsters, monsters that absolutely live up to every inch of their flavor text. Your PLAYERS don’t need to be using the mythic rules. They don’t even need to know the monster IS a mythic monster. All they know is what their characters see: that this monster has an awful lot of nasty tricks up its sleeve that they didn’t see coming. They thought they had the Bestiary memorized, but you are showing them a side of these monsters that they’ve never seen, keeping them on their toes with exciting challenges. And when it comes to monsters, they don’t come any more monstrous than MAGICAL BEASTS!

These are your classic monsters of myth and legend, the kind of blood-feasting beasties that inspire many a heroic quest. Whether they are just the kind of apex predators that would naturally evolve in a world with magic and monster – the fantastic version of lions, and tigers, and bears (OH MY!) – or magical mutants or just the embodiment of classic folklore (including the folklore that RPGs have made for themselves over the last 40 years), these are the monster’s monsters. We’ll take a closer look inside the covers tomorrow, but for now we’ll leave you with this delightful cover courtesy of Michael Jaecks virtual paintbrush and the mad layout skillz of Richard Kunz. Oh, and the table of contents, including monsters from 1st Ed to brand new!
