It is a marvelous thing to be the Pirate King!

Our next pirate-themed adventure for 5th Edition is in layout as we speak! It is a great companion adventure to Islands of Plunder: Spices and Flesh (for 4th level characters) and our forthcoming pirate adventures Scourge of the Steaming Isle and Raid on the Emperor’s Hand, though you need not play one to use the other. Prepare to set sail for Tarin’s Crown, available this week!

IoP - Tarin's Crown cover

The Isle of Danger Awaits!

The treacherous jungle island known as Crown Isle was marked on every map for danger, as the verdant vegetation itself rose up to devour many who sought landing there until the infamous Captain Jared Tarin hacked out a refuge upon the mountain’s hilly crest and made it his own. Other pirates sought to take him down, but each fell to the deadly dangers of the “Red Skewer” and his pirates, or to the still-wild jungle barely held at bay. When Tarin and his crew stole the Pirate Queen’s Pearl, a flotilla of rivals blockaded his island for months, but none have dared to seize their chance. Can your eager band of buccaneers claim fame and fortune on the deadly isle of Tarin’s Crown?

Islands of Plunder: Tarin’s Crown is an adventure for 6th-level PCs using the 5th Edition rules of the world’s most famous roleplaying game. Fraught with harrowing battles on land and aboard ship, through treacherous terrain against even more treacherous foes, this adventure includes two sets of maps, one for the GM an unkeyed set for player reference. This adventure can be played on its own or easily dropped into any seafaring campaign or setting.

Speaking of Mythic Monsters, we are proud to present some very kind words from Endzeitgeist about Mythic Monsters: Plantswhich he exalts as one of the best installments in the entire series!

So, plants…to me, they always are the most creepy critters out there. I don’t know why, but fungi and plants, perhaps due to my allergies and their overt and covert means of causing harm, always felt truly disturbing to me. Similarly, a fascination with herbalism is immediately catered to by this pdf, for we begin with truly magical, mythic plants – what about bellflower-like plants that are sensitive to sound and can easily be activated by the pure voices of children – granting fast healing as well as allowing for age resistance? Yes, these plants are truly interesting and breathe the spirit of magic and the fantastic. Love them! Spell-wise, this also sports two new ones, one to grow potion-fruits and a high-level spell that lets you grow atree of life – both of these are absolutely awesome.

Jason Nelson, Mike Welham, Alistair J. Rigg and Jonathan H. Keith deliver in this installment: Plants need to be tricky, but they also need to be efficient, somewhat realistic, if you will – we all know how plants work and while we want the fantastic, we also know our biology, so much like animals, this needed to be creative and magical, but still believable…and take creatures that are known for being deadly, but vulnerable and make them fearsome. This pdf achieved this goal with flying colors – all killer, no filler, this book takes some of the most boring creatures and breathes unique life and flair into them, while also providing superb supplemental material and a stunning new adversary. This is one of the strongest installments in the whole series – the final verdict will clock in at 5 stars + seal of approval – get this now!

You can read his full review on his website here, and of course you can pick up Mythic Monsters: Plants right here at the Legendary Games webstoreon sale for just 2 bucks as our new TWO$DAY product of the week!

A new kind of Hero is nearly here!

An adventure story is only as good as its hero, and a great many heroes follow the call of destiny and the thrill of adventure… but not all of them. From farmboys like Luke Skywalker and Garion to simple homebodies like Bilbo Baggins and scoundrels and creeps that are secretly a lot more heroic than they’d like to admit like Han Solo or even Deadpool, some heroes spend half their time wishing they were anywhere but on the road to adventure. For heroes like this, we are delighted to introduce Path of the Reluctant Hero by Jason Nelson and Tork Shaw, which should be available tomorrow!

Path of the Reluctant Hero cover

This Pathfinder RPG supplement for the mythic rules offers an entirely new mythic path, complete with a selection of reluctant heroics like the anti-hero and cynic; dozens upon dozens of path abilities like snatch from death, taking you with me, right place/right time, unorthodox tactics, focus over fury, and lucky guess; and six thematic builds: the denier of destiny, homebody, orphan, retired hero, scoundrel with a heart of gold, and the simple farmer. Don’t let the humble names fool you; from such humble origins have arisen some of the greatest heroes of fantasy, film, and fiction. It’s a different way to think about why your character is out adventuring in the first place, and how even the one you least expected might become the savior of all! Here is just a foretaste of what you can expect to find within.

What You Will Find Inside Path of the Reluctant Hero

In classic fantasy roleplaying games, player characters drive the action. They are bold, daring, courageous, and always on the lookout for a new adventure. Their abilities and equipment are simply a means to an end, of conquering the next challenge and bringing home another trophy and another tale to share by the fireside. Yet in fantasy stories from film and fiction, and even from real history, there are those heroes who become heroes in the course of their tale, but who would really rather be anywhere else but an adventure. It is not so much that they lack courage and daring, but that those qualities are buried beneath an exterior of contentment and complacency, a narrow world view that sees only their small surroundings, a sense of unimportance in the grand scheme, or even flat-out resignation or resistance to the call of adventure. And yet, it is into adventure that they go, and in the process they discover the true heroism within themselves and reveal their worth to more jaded or experienced companions who may have thought them worthless and weak.

Path of the Reluctant Hero is designed to help build characters who achieve immortality and legendary status not because they were the obvious choice, riding a wave of dauntless destiny, but because they came from humble beginnings where greatness was the farthest thing from their minds. Their adventures at times seem almost like accidents, as though each one were just something that happened along the way trying to get home, and yet in looking back they have achieved far more than anyone ever would have believed, forging a legacy that stands shoulder to shoulder with the greatest of heroes. They may begin as simple farmers or humble homebodies, tending hearth and home, fields and flocks, rising from such humble station to make their mark upon history. Others may be orphans with only vague clues to their past, or those burdened with a terrible weight of a legacy that crushes them with its seeming inevitability, each struggling to forge his own path. They may even be experienced adventurers who just don’t want to get involved, from retired heroes beaten down by the futility of making real change to those who think they are heartless mercenaries and scoundrels but just can’t resist the urge to lend a hand when times get tough. A Reluctant Hero is a character who never thought of herself as a hero, and yet her common sense and her sheer grit and determination can see her through any challenge. She will not bow or break, she will not give up on protecting the home and hope she holds dearest to her heart, and she will never forget that what she is fighting for─ peace and freedom, home and happiness ─matters more than anything.

Of course, mythic isn’t all about monsters and magic, so we are also pleased to announce that February will see the release of a brand-new mythic path, the Path of the Reluctant Hero by Tork Shaw and Jason Nelson! Some heroes just don’t want to be the stars of the show, to just get home, to tend their home and hearth in peace, yet adventure and destiny keep finding them again and again, and every time they stand tall. This brand-new path should be available by next Friday, or the following week at the latest!

Of course, mythic is just one of the many things we’ve got going at Legendary Games! We are also delighted to present our second Legendary Beginnings adventure aimed at younger audiences and newer gamers, The Bandit’s Cave by Paris Crenshaw!

This great new adventure can stand on its own, of course, but it also comprises the first issue in the new five-part Trail of the Apprentice adventure path. Yes, that’s right, an entire AP designed especially for novice gamers! Here’s the promo text by the author:

Trail of the Apprentice
A hidden danger threatens the kingdom of Threll and brave adventurers must answer the call! A bold attack and a mysterious theft set a group of heroes on a mission to find the mastermind behind them. They must follow clues, face great dangers, and uncover ancient secrets to stop a madman before he can unleash a terrible evil upon the world.
Trail of the Apprentice is a 5-part mini-campaign, designed for beginners and younger players of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Each adventure takes your heroes through one character level, from 1st though 5th. Trail of the Apprentice is part of the Legendary Beginnings line, designed to create exciting adventures suitable for all ages. These modules use simplified stat blocks and other rules adjustments to keep gameplay fun for new players, and contains helpful sidebars that provide advice on how to run RPGs for younger gamers so your whole family can Make Your Game Legendary!
Now some of your more mature gamers might like something about grittier, and we have got you covered there as well. The long-simmering Metal Gods adventure Scorpions of Perdition by Alex Riggs and Nicolas Logue is slated for release later this month, featuring body snatchers, alien horrors, and a ruined city with secrets too impossible to tell!
